Tan Sau Palm Up Defense Block

Tan Sau – 摊手 – is introduced as the first of Wing Chun’s Three Poison Hands, and is used primarily to disrupt an incoming attack, redirecting and possibly trapping the attacker’s arms. Tan means “spread,” and is most often translated as “dispersing hand” based on the action of redirecting an attacker’s incoming energy. Kung Fu Birmingham – Pelham Location

Evening Wing Chun classes are held at Gracie Barra Alabama, a state-of-the-art martial arts training facility located in Pelham, AL just south of Birmingham. The gym features two massive training areas, each with room for 60+ students. The floors and walls are padded; firm enough for realistic training but padded enough to practice take-downs and groundwork. Proprioception

The sense of the relative position of the body or limbs in space. The proprioceptive sense is believed to be composed of information from sensory neurons located in the inner ear (motion and orientation) and in the stretch receptors located in the muscles and the joint-supporting ligaments (stance). Kinesthetic Awareness

Also known as Kinesthesia The awareness of the position and movement of the parts of the body using sensory organs, which are known as proprioceptors, in joints and muscles. “Kinesthetic awareness” is sometimes used interchangeably with “proprioception,” however kinesthesia does not include the sense of balance. Also, kinesthesia focuses on the body’s motion or movements, while proprioception focuses more on the body’s awareness of its movements and behaviors. This has led to the notion that kinesthesia is more behavioral, and proprioception is more cognitive. Read more at Wikipedia.
